Commack High School Boys Varsity Golf

These images were taken at a practice at Crab Meadow Golf Course on Thursday.

Golf photography is a great change of pace from other sports photography. Unlike most sports venues where you rarely have a clean background, with golf virtually all the backgrounds are perfect.

The two things you have to watch out for, other than flying golf balls, are that your backgrounds are going to be much darker so you need to compensate for overexposure, and there’s a lot of green light reflected back into the golfer, especially when they’re in the shade. This may cause your camera to overcompensate with magenta tint. You can generally fix this in post-processing.

These images were all shot with a Sony a1 with a 100-400mm zoom lens. Shutter speed was 1/2000 sec., wide open aperture and auto-ISO.

Thanks to the friendly staff at Crab Meadow Golf Course for letting me photograph out on the course.
