Commack High School Varsity Gymnastics vs. Ward Melville

Congratulations to the Commack gymnastics team on their win over Ward Melville on Friday.

I’m trying to get used to my new equipment and especially which lenses to choose for which events. I ended up going with the 50mm prime for the vault and uneven bars and the 135mm for the balance beam and floor exercises. In retrospect I probably could have gone with the 135 for the uneven bars also but I was concerned about having enough room in the frame, especially when the athletes move between bars.

Exposure was 1/1000 sec. @ f/2, auto-ISO. ISO was running between 4000 and 10,000 depending on event location in the gym. Some of the athletes moves are so fast that it would be nice to shoot at 1/2000 sec. but that would require either a full stop wide aperture, which would severely limit my depth-of-field or a stop higher ISO, which would give me noise problems. This seemed to be a decent balance.
