Commack High School Varsity Field Hockey vs. Copiague

Congratulations to the Commack field hockey team on their win over Copiague.

Another fall season gets started. This was my first shoot this year. Beautiful weather.

As with most field sports, I’m shooting with my Sony a1 with a 100-400mm lens. My exposure settings are auto-ISO with a 1/2000 sec. minimum shutter speed. My aperture is wide open. I’m using continuous AF with the AF mode on tracking-expand spot. I have face and eye recognition turned on since field hockey players don’t wear guards or helmets. I have my white balance set on cloudy, even though it was sunny, to give me a slightly warmer look. Optical steady shot is turned off since I’m shooting at a fast shutter speed and using a monopod. The shutter is set to continuous-high burst mode. That’s about it. I use these setting for almost all field sports varying only the white balance based on weather and the shutter speed if it gets really dark or I’m shooting under dim lights.
