Commack High School Varsity Softball vs. Sachem North
Congratulations to the Commack softball team on another win, this time against Sachem North. It probably seems like, lately, I've been photographing nothing but softball but the fact is the weather has only cooperated for me on days when there's a softball game. I like shooting softball but after taking the same photos over and over again I have to try some different shots. Time to get a little more creative.
The first thing I'll do is shoot tighter, like in the photo on the left. It's harder to get the timing right when you're zoomed in this close and you don't get many keepers but the ones you do get are worth it.
Next, I'll look for different framing situations. In this game Commack had a lot of runners on third base at various times during the game. The coach generally moves out of the box towards the baseline in situations like this so I tried to get the batter framed by the runner on third and the coach. It worked for a couple of shots at least.
The occasional high-five is always nice and you have to get the infielders conference on the pitcher's mound. Batters leaping out of the way of wild pitches are a possibility as is the batter looking at the coach's signs. Then there's the "line drive straight at the coach" shot, which becomes more interesting when you're standing behind him. Hmmm, I wonder which way he'll duck...
Anyway, they're all in this gallery. Have fun.
