Commack High School Winter Concert II
Another great concert, this time by the 10th grade groups. This will be a short post since I'm a little behind in post processing. If you'd like to know how I shot this concert just check out the previous post on the 9th grade concert. Nothing different here.
Today's tip - if you're shooting the entire concert (not just your child) when picking a subject to focus on, I would recommend focusing on the brightest subject in your frame. When looking at a photograph your eye always jumps to the brightest area in the image first. If this is in focus everything else pretty much doesn't matter. In a venue like the typical high school concert you're going to be dealing with stage lighting that is pretty varied across the ensemble you're photographing. Some musicians/singers will be lit brightly and others will be in almost complete darkness. You probably won't be able to stop down your aperture enough to get everyone in focus so for each frame you shoot select the most brightly lit singer or musicians to focus on.
