Commack High School Varsity Field Hockey vs. Bay Shore - Fuji XT-2 Eval Part 5
Caught the last field hockey game of the season for Commack. They had a nice ceremony at the beginning for one of the seniors.
This is the last part of my evaluation of the Fujifilm XT-2 camera. As with the soccer games, I shot this one with the 100-400mm lens. I didn't expect to uncover any further issues since field hockey is basically like shooting soccer or other field sports, so I thought I'd summarize the camera's pros and cons. Keep in mind, these are my own opinions and apply to shooting high school sports.
What I Liked
Great color rendition. Extremely sharp lenses. Much improved (faster) autofocus compared with the XT1. Much lighter in weight than most DSLR combos, and especially mine. Lots of latitude to recover highlights and shadow details in post.
What I Didn't Like
Recessed, smooth buttons difficult to locate quickly, especially for back-button focusing. Rear command dial moves too easily leading to inadvertent changes in shutter speed. Despite numerous zone focusing options, I still had much better luck with single point focus. Autofocus, while much improved could still use a little more improvement, especially in low light. Wi-Fi connectivity is flakey but I hear there's a firmware fix coming out for this.
Despite its shortcomings, I still love the camera. I wouldn't recommend it to a professional sports photographer due to the limited lineup of lenses currently available but for most people it's a great choice.
