Caught the Commack boys golf team in a match with Elwood - John Glenn on Friday. Beautiful day for golf.
Golf is another one of my favorite sports to photograph. If you photograph high school sports you know that getting a clean background is nearly impossible. That’s why photographing a golf match is so great - it’s almost impossible to not get a great background. The courses are beautiful.
The light for this match was bright with a sunny, cloudless sky. Lots of contrast but the light warmed as the time went by and, by the end of the day, the warm light streamed across the fairways. It’s tricky to expose for this because you really have to keep your highlights from blowing out. The shots out of the camera look very unexposed but, since you’re shooting at a low ISO, it’s easy to bring up the shadows in post. Other than that, the only real challenge is the golfers wearing hats; you need to try to get under them or wait until they raise their heads.
Camera and lens - Fujifilm X-T3 and 100-400mm zoom; 18-55mm zoom for team photos.
Exposure - 1/1250 sec., wide open aperture, riding the ISO depending upon light.
Post processing - Capture One Pro 12
