Congratulations to the Commack boys volleyball team on an exciting win over Ward Melville. Both teams played well.
I had the same strategy going into this match as for the girls volleyball match last week. It’s the first game I shot of this team so I’m trying to get as many players as possible. Just to repeat the obvious, you can’t follow the ball when photographing volleyball; it’s just too fast. You need to anticipate where the ball is going to go next and focus on that player. If you start panning with the ball you’ll never catch up and you’ll just induce more motion blur in your image. Keep both eyes open if your camera allows it and pre-focus on your player. If the ball doesn’t come to him, chances are it will come to another player close by and you may be able to recompose in time.
Same post- processing as for the girls game - darken the bright blue walls and de-saturate the yellow walls then remove the yellow color cast from the skin tones.
Camera and lens - Fujifilm X-T3 and 50-140mm zoom.
Exposure - ISO 10,000, 1/800 sec. @ f/2.8.
Post processing - Capture One Pro 12
