Commack High School Varsity Football vs. Patchogue-Medford - Senior Day
This game featured senior day celebrations for the football team and cheerleaders.
Senior day is a lot of fun but it’s also a lot of photos. Each of the seniors has a photo with their family and the football players also get photos running through their numbers. Makes for a long post-processing session.
This was yet another day with cloudless skies, extremely bright and contrasty. We tried to position the families so the sun hit them at a 45° angle. Enough to get some sun on their faces but hopefully not enough to make them squint. This also produces some shadows on the faces for better definition. Even so, this was one of those exercises that proves that your camera doesn’t have near the dynamic range that your eyes do. It was very difficult to keep the skin tones from blowing out while holding detail in the shadows. So … you do the best you can.
Camera and lens - for family and group shots Fujifilm X-T2 and 18-55mm zoom; for all other photos Fujifilm X-T3 and 100-400mm zoom.
Exposure - for family and group shots - ISO 200, 1/800 sec. @ f/5.6; for game shots - ISO 400, 1/200 sec. @ f/5.6.
Post-processing - Capture One Pro 12 and Photoshop CC 2019
Next up - probably boys volleyball.
