Commack High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse vs. Smithtown East - Playoff
The Commack boys varsity lacrosse team’s season ended here with a loss to Smithtown East. Commack had a solid season and made the playoffs so that’s an accomplishment.
One of the banes of sports photographers is shooting a game where one team is wearing white uniforms and the other is wearing black. Your auto-exposure will be all over the map and will probably get the exposure wrong most of the time. This is the time you want to use manual exposure mode. You can use a handheld lightmeter but if you don’t have one with you just put on a short lens and take a photograph of the entire field as if you were taking a landscape photo. Once you get that photo properly exposed set your camera to manual and use that exposure for the rest of the game. You may have to make adjustments if the game is late in the day and you start to lose light or if the sun is going in and out, but this should get you in the ball park.
Even with doing that you’ll need to make some adjustments to highlights and shadows in post simply because your camera doesn’t have the dynamic range to cover that contrasty a scene, but if you’re properly exposed to begin with you should be able to bring your highlights and shadows back.
That’s it for this post. I had a huge assignment over the last three days and I have over 5000 photos to go through. Have Fun.
