Another senior day game, this time the Commack baseball team playing Whitman. With the exception of track, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many seniors on a team. Makes for a huge group photo.
There are two things you need to remember when shooting senior day family photos. First, bring a wide lens. Second, stop down your aperture to increase your depth-of-field so that everyone is in focus. I’m shooting these at f/5.6 with an 18-55mm APS-C lens. At that aperture I can get everyone sharp and still throw the background out of focus a little. You can get away with a wider aperture but only if everyone’s in a straight line next to each other. Once you start standing people in front or in back of each other you’ll need at least f/5.6 or narrower.
It was yet another cloudy day so no problems with contrast. I did open up the shadows under the players hat brims a bit for the family photos.
That’s it for today’s post. Lacrosse playoffs start next week and, as usual, the weather forecast is looking crappy.
