Congratulations to the Commack varsity softball team on their win over William Floyd on Wednesday.
With schools on break there are a lot of morning games this week. Morning games give you a chance to photograph the same field in different light than afternoon games. For Commack softball this means the light is coming in from behind the third base line. This lights the fielders but throws the batters into shade, at least partially. When I photographed these batters I’m kneeling down to try to get under the batters’ helmets to see their faces. This only works to a certain degree because they’re still looking down as the ball comes across the plate, but every little bit helps.
These images were finished with Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome film profile, which emulates color slide films I used to use back in the day. It’s a retro look but I like it and it’s way easier than processing film. It does tend to add a little too much red for my liking to skin tones but this can be removed easily enough in post.
That’s it for this post. Next up - girls lacrosse on Saturday if the weather holds.
