Commack High School Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Brentwood - Suffolk AA Quarterfinals
The Commack boys basketball team ended their season at the Suffolk County quarterfinals at Brentwood. They finished with a great season and it was lots of fun photographing them.
Brentwood has an interesting gym with huge windows across most, but not all, of the long sides of the gym. This game was played at noon so the light was pouring in, putting 2/3 of the court a full stop brighter than the other 1/3. To adjust for this I just changed my ISO as the play moved back and forth.
The other interesting feature was the walls. They were green on the bottom and what looked to be white on top, but was actually a very pale green. I must admit this had me going for a while as I was post processing the images. I couldn’t figure out the color cast on the skin tones but then I finally remembered the light green walls.
There are two ways of color correcting for this. You can either mask in the skin and anything else affected by the color cast and then adjust it accordingly or you can take the easy way out and “redecorate” the gym by selecting the light green wall color and de-saturating it. I opted for the latter, and much quicker, approach.
That’s it for this post and that’s it for winter sports. Have a great winter break. See you for spring sports.
