Back to the Health, Sports and Education Center at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood to cover a boys winter track crossover meet.
If you’re looking for tips and strategies for photographing an indoor track event check out the December 8 post on girls winter track.
The only suggestion I can add to that post, especially if you’re covering an event at SCCC Brentwood, is to avoid underexposing at all costs. You’re going to be shooting at extremely high ISO’s which produce a lot of noise and you’re way better off either further increasing your ISO setting or reducing your shutter speed than trying to increase exposure in post. If you look at the photos in this gallery you can see a few where I forgot to check my ISO before taking a shot and underexposed the image. I realize there’s a strong temptation to do this, especially if you’re already at ISO 12,800 and 1/640 @f/2.8, but underexposed photos at high ISO’s almost always look worse after the exposure is increased when editing than if you would have increased the exposure in-camera.
That’s it for this post. Hope everyone is still having a great holiday. Tomorrow it’s back to work/school/stuff.
