An exciting double-overtime game that ended in a 1-1 tie. Seems like soccer is the only sport that has the weather on their side so far this year, at least for home games.
Since I had a shoot canceled for Friday and had a little time on my hands I thought I would color grade these photos. I usually avoid fooling with colors in sports photos aside from white balancing because it makes colored uniforms look weird. This year, however, someone decided to decree that all of the schools soccer uniforms were going to be mainly white and black. Not great for your camera’s exposure meter. On the other hand, no risk of screwing up the colors because there aren’t any.
Color grading, for those unfamiliar with it, is the process of applying an artistic color effect by slightly altering certain colors in the image or applying an overall color cast. It’s most often seen in motion pictures to set a certain mood. You can also find a more, ahem, heavy handed version in the Instagram app.
For these photos I warmed the skin tones slightly and pushed the greens a bit towards blue. This left all the other colors, what few there were, untouched. It’s a subtle difference but that’s the point.
See, that’s what happens when I have time on my hands. I do stuff. I’d be interested to know what everybody thinks.
