Well, that was a short summer. Technically it's still going on since this game was played before Labor Day. This was my first sports shoot in a while and the first of the Commack fall sports season.
Nice weather for soccer. Cool and mostly overcast with the sun breaking through on rare occasions. This means I got to shoot from both sides of the field without going through post-processing hell later on. I started out shooting full manual but switched to Auto-ISO when the sun started to go in and out. Settings for this game were 1/1600 sec. and wide open aperture which, on my 100-400mm is anywhere from f/4.5 to f/5.6.
One unwritten rule (guideline?) in sports photography is to always have both the subject's face and the ball in the photo. This certainly makes sense most of the time but there's one shot in this gallery that breaks that rule and I kind of like it.
