Commack High School Tennis with the Teachers Breast Cancer Fundraiser
Spent an hour or so photographing "Tennis with the Teachers" a really fun and worthwhile breast cancer fundraiser held by the Commack High School boys tennis team. Looked like everyone was having lots of fun and, hopefully, they raised some money for a worthy cause.
Since this is a really casual event I'm photographing from inside the courts, something I never get to do during a normal match . This lets me move around more quickly without having to worry about the fence. That's a good thing because the matches are much shorter and you need to shoot fast and accurately and move on to the next player quickly before their match ends. The only thing you have to be careful of is staying back against the fence and out of the way of the players.
For this tournament, I'm shooting from both sides of the court. I don't like to do that during a regular match because one side has the parking lot and houses as a background, which can get pretty distracting but, due to the shortness of the matches, I don't have much of a choice. I'm still using my 100-400mm lens shooting into the players on the opposite side of the court, but I also brought an 18-55mm for some shots of the trophies and a few group shots.
Lots of fun!
