Commack High School Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Half Hollow Hills East - Suffolk AA Championship
Congratulations to the new Suffolk AA Champions Commack's girls basketball team. To coin a favorite (old) sports phrase, "they won convincingly".
This game was held at SUNY Farmingdale's Nold Athletics complex. And guess what they have there? Light! Bright, edge-to-edge, take-it-to-the-bank 3800ºK color balanced beautiful light. Guess what else they have? Light, cream-colored stained wood floors! So, yeah, your kid ain't orange anymore! The only downside, if you can even call it that, is the lighting over the stands stinks. But, hey, that's what you get for sitting in the cheap seats.
I must say, shooting here was a treat. Even my camera's autofocus loved it. There was even decent contrast, unlike the flat lighting in most gyms. Not sure why but it may have something to do with the lower lighting over the stands.
If you're wondering how they did this have a look at this shot of the gym lighting.
The LED banks are much closer together than most gyms and they cover the entire ceiling. You can also see that light-stained floor in this shot. The paint area is green but that's the school color so I guess we can forgive them for that. This shot was taken with my phone, which had no trouble getting the white balance right.
That's it for this post. I saw a sign on our school that said spring sports start March 5th. Uh ... aren't we still in winter sports? No rest for the weary.
