Commack High School Boys Varsity Bowling
Went back to Bowlero Lanes in Commack to photograph the boys bowling team at a practice last Thursday.
For tips and strategies for photographing bowling see the previous post on the girls bowling team. Not too much to add to that. The boys team was bowling at the end of the lanes where the light was even lower than near the entrance. In situations like this, where your ambient is at ISO 12,800 to get 1/100 sec. you’re going to get motion blur in your photos so you tend to take a lot of shots of bowlers before they start their approach.
The other thing you can try is to just go with the motion blur, drop your shutter speed even more, and pan with the bowlers as they make their approach and release the ball. You probably won’t get a lot of keepers shooting this way but the ones you get will be interesting. The key is to have the face, or at least the eyes, in focus.
The photos in this gallery were finished using Fuji’s Classic Chrome film profile. I figured since the bowling alley is retro the photos might as well be also.
Thanks once again to the nice folks at Bowlero lanes for letting me photograph there.
That’s it for this post. I’m still way behind in my edits. Hope everyone’s still having a great holiday season. Next up - JV boys basketball.
