Commack High School Girls Varsity Volleyball vs. Connetquot - Suffolk Championship
Congratulations to the Commack High School girls volleyball team, the new Suffolk County Champions.
Once you get to the County finals all the games are played at a 3rd-party location. This location for this match was Suffolk Community College’s Brentwood Athletics Center. It’s a large venue with moveable bleachers and these matches draw a big crowd, which makes for great backgrounds. I tend to include as much of the crowd as possible in many of the photos.
Unfortunately, this venue is probably one of the most dimly lit on Long Island so your ISO is in la-la land. We’re talking ISO 10,000 to get you 1/640 sec. at f/2.8 and that’s slightly underexposed. The noise level in my images is a bit much, even for Capture One, so I round-trip my images to Photoshop and run the Noiseware plug-in on them. I’ve found Noiseware to be the best noise reduction software out there, and I’ve tried a lot of them.
While in Photoshop I also run the three “Auto” adjustments under the Image menu selection - Auto Tone, Auto Contrast, and Auto Color. These used to be awful in previous versions of Photoshop but they’re much improved in the latest version. To be on the safe side I’ll run Auto Color on it’s own layer so I can dial back the opacity if needed.
That’s it for this post. Next up will be the last two games of the Class A Suffolk Finals girls volleyball match between Kings Park and Westhampton, then Tennis with the Teachers.
See you at the girls volleyball Long Island Championship match on Sunday at Farmingdale College.
