Commack High School Boys Varsity Volleyball vs. Smithtown East - Playoff
The Commack boys volleyball team’s season ended with this match but they had a great run this year.
Smithtown East has a gym with red walls but, thankfully, the red part only covers the lower half. The upper half, as well as the ceiling, is white. Ironically, the challenge here is not the red walls. The gym is large and there’s enough perimeter space to keep the players away from the walls. The real challenge is the floor; it has a saturated orange stain that is reflected onto everything.
Luckily, the fix is simple - just de-saturate that color. You can do that in Lightroom with the target adjustment tool on the HSL panel, or in Capture One using the color editor. Click on a bright area of the floor and just de-saturate it. Skin tone colors, and everything else affected by the orange reflection, will pretty much fall into place.
One thing cool about shooting in a large gym is that you can get really high up in the bleachers, assuming there’s space, and shoot down at the players. It gives a different perspective and it lends itself well to volleyball where the players are almost always looking up to hit the ball. As you can probably tell, the last half of the gallery was taken from up there.
That’s it for this post. The next post will be the girls volleyball quarterfinal with Sachem North.
