Commack High School Girls Varsity Volleyball vs. Deer Park - Playoff
Congratulations to the Commack girls volleyball team on their first playoff win against Deer Park.
I got to this game a few minutes late because I was covering the 2:00pm boys soccer playoff then went home to download those photos and grab some fresh batteries.
When playoff season starts I tend to focus on more interesting shots and angles. By that time I’ve gotten just about everyone serving, setting, etc. The challenge in our gym is very limited perimeter space. I’m shooting from either behind the scoring table adjacent to the net or in the rear corner shooting towards the net. I can’t get on the opposite side of the court because there’s not enough room between the wall and the court. For this reason, I tend to photograph the same player positions because the others are either too close or blocked by other players. You just have to take what you can get and make the best of it.
Once I have a few games covered I can concentrate on the “riskier” shots. Having taken a lot of shots of this team during the season I can afford to take some chances such as shooting a lot tighter, even if the ball isn’t in the photo, or pre-focusing on certain areas on the opposite side of the net where I think (hope) an interesting play will happen.
Next up - the first boys volleyball playoff game at Smithtown East.
