Commack High School Girls Varsity Soccer vs. Ward Melville
You can tell the days are getting shorter from the ISO settings on my photos. For this game I started at 500 and finished at 12,800. A sure sign that the fall sports season is winding down.
I was shooting this game on auto-ISO. I keep my maximum ISO setting on 6400 but, especially at this time of the year, I'll have to bump it up past that setting near the end of a game. The fact that it was overcast didn't help matters. I had already reduced my shutter speed to 1/640 sec., which is rock-bottom for sports photos. But, I'd much rather deal with high-ISO noise than blurry photos.
Lately I've been using Noiseware from Imagenomic for noise reduction. I find it works better than other noise reduction software with my Fuji XT-2. Even so, once you get past ISO 6400 you're probably going to see that no noise reduction software is perfect; you'll either be left with some noise or lose some detail. But at least you get to pick which one.
That's it for today. Volleyball tonight.
